BANYAN SYSTEMS SHOW BULLETIN
COMDEX/SPRING '90
June 3 - 6, 1990
Booth #452, Georgia World Congress Center
Banyan Announces New and Expanded Programs
to Strengthen Reseller Channel
In a move befitting the traditional COMDEX focus on the Computer
Reseller Community, Banyan is making two announcements of programs
designed to benefit the company's Value Added Reseller channel
throughout North America. The first of these announcements
introduces twenty-five comprehensive programs... half of them new,
most of the rest revised and expanded... which will enhance the
ability of Resellers to sell and support Banyan products
successfully and profitably.
The second announcement describes the establishment of the new
Banyan Reseller Council, a representative advisory body of Banyan
Value Added Resellers. The Council was created to provide a forum
for the consistent exchange of information between Banyan and its
Resellers to promote closer cooperation and more effective delivery
of Banyan's networking solutions to Reseller customers.
Banyan Sharpens Image with New Tradeshow Booth at COMDEX/Spring '90
Attendees to Spring/COMDEX in Atlanta will have no difficulty
finding Banyan's Booth #452 in the Georgia World Congress Center.
The striking new exhibit stands two stories high, is boldly
emblazoned with the unmistakable Banyan Tree logo, and incorporates
state-of-the-art electronic messaging and rear-screen projection
facilities to attract passers-by. Among the noteworthy features are
a theater/seminar area with seating for forty, two second floor
conference rooms, and discrete stations for up to 28 simultaneous
product demonstrations. The booth was specifically designed to
facilitate the efficient flow of foot traffic to the various
demonstration stations.
Four In-Booth Technical Seminars Address Hot Networking Topics
Now a regular feature of major Banyan tradeshow exhibits is an on-
going series of timely in-booth technical seminars, each a 15
minute presentation with ample time for Q&As from the audience.
For COMDEX/Spring '90, the in-booth seminar topics and times are:
* VINES Overview:
Provides a conceptual perspective for organizations involved with
planning corporate network standards. Covers challenges and
opportunities, and describes products that facilitate the
implementation of corporate-wide PC network requirements.
Sunday 6/3 -- 12:30pm; 4:15pm
Monday 6/4 -- 10:30am; 2:30pm

LAN users and administrators. It introduces StreetTalk, Banyan's
industry-leading directory service, and shows how StreetTalk makes
the VINES networking system simpler to use and administer. The
session also addresses issues surrounding X.500, the new
international standard for directory access across computer systems
and networks.
Sunday 6/3 -- 1:15pm; 3:30pm
Monday 6/4 -- 1:00pm; 4:00pm
Tuesday 6/5 -- 1:00pm; 4:00pm
Wednesday 6/6 -- 1:00pm; 3:15pm

distributed, server-based applications. Examines the programming
interfaces in the VINES Applications Toolkit and methods for
creating gateways to mail systems, network/groupware applications
or distributed databases.

Banyan's Dave Williams to Participate in COMDEX Panel
Banyan's Director of Strategic Marketing, Dave Williams, will be
a speaker on the panel: "The Network Operating System Battle
Continues", scheduled for Monday, June 4, at 1:30 - 3:00 pm.
New VINES Demonstration Illustrates How to Access
Every Server in a Corporate-Wide PC Network from a Single PC
Visitors to Banyan's COMDEX booth will have an unusual opportunity
to see how Banyan's fully integrated approach to networking allows
convenient access from a single PC to an unlimited number of
servers in a VINES-based corporate-wide PC network. The
demonstration provides an excellent representation of the type of
convenient, overall systems management possible on VINES... simply
by taking advantage of Banyan's StreetTalk global directory
service, MNET network management software, VINES Applications
Toolkit, and Microsoft Windows. With VINES, anything that can be
monitored can also be managed.
The demonstration provides selected real-time graphical and
statistical views of servers (by functional group) on the network.
In this instance, the entire Banyan corporate network with nearly
200 servers is accessible simultaneously in a single screen. Other
screens provide more isolated views of server clusters in the
network, such as in Banyan's engineering development, production,
quality assurance, and education organizations in Westboro and
Marlboro, Mass., as well as in other geographically dispersed
Banyan installations, including those in California, Canada, and
the United Kingdom.
VIA for VINES Debuts in Banyan's COMDEX Booth
On the eve of its first customer shipment, VIA for VINES... one of
the world's most powerful and versatile distributed SQL data base
server products... will be displayed in Banyan's Comdex booth by
VIA Information Systems Corp. of Princeton, NJ. The product was
ported to VINES from VIA's high-performance data base server,
VIA/DRE (Distributed Relational Environment), which is especially
well-suited to LAN application development and distributed data
base computing. In February, 1990, LAN Magazine named VIA the Data
Base Product of the Year.
